497 Galaxy Explorer is a Classic Space set released in 1979. It contains a large spacecraft, a ground base with a landing pad and a small tower, a small space rover and four Classic Space astronauts (two red, two white).
This set was only available in the US, where it was sold instead of the identical set 928 Galaxy Explorer that was available elsewhere. Both spacecraft had the number "LL 928" printed onto their hulls though.
The building of the ground base contained a control room and had a large dish antenna on the outside. The cockpit had enough room for two minifigures and could be accessed by tilting back its roof. At the aft, the ship had a large cargo compartment with a loading ramp where the rover could be stored. The rocket engines and the aft fuselage had to be tilted to the sides to access it.
- The spacecraft has a similar colorscheme and design as the smaller spaceships from the sets 918 Space Transport and 924 Transporter.
- The Spacecraft is similar to The Lego Movie Benny Spaceship, Spaceship, Spaceship.
