5969 Squidman Escape was released in May of 2009 as part of the LEGO Space Police III line. Included are Squidman and Space Police III Officer Minifigures, along with a LEGO $100 bill. The set also includes a Space Police Raptor unit with an opening front hood for the Space Police Officer and two freeze rays to capture Squidman.

Notes
- This set was originally scheduled for release in August, but was released early by LEGO in May 2009.
- Squidman's head is only featured in two sets - this one, and 5980 Squidman's Pitstop. Squidtron's head is the same shape as Squidman's, but has a different colour scheme. The Space Alien also uses this head.
- The space police officer has the same head as Agent Fuse from the theme Agents.
- This set was included in the Product Collections set 2853300 Space Police Collection.
