Workshop and family house ca.1924

In 1916, Ole Kirk Christiansen returned to Denmark from Norway and, using his savings, he bought the Billund Maskinsnedkeri og Tømrerforretning (The Billund Carpentry Shop and Lumberyard), which was originally established in 1895. It served as his wood-shop and home. Ole would usually spend the spring and summer working on any construction or home repair jobs he could find. In the winter, he would make furniture and stock up on doors and windows. He started with small jobs, and as the community slowly grew, and as his reputation for honest, solid work increased, he began to be awarded bigger projects.
