Semantic MediaWiki or SMW is a powerful extension that helps users to search, organise, tag, browse, evaluate, and share a wiki's content. While traditional wikis contain only text which computers can neither understand nor evaluate, SMW adds semantic annotations that allow a wiki to function as a collaborative database.
Its use here[]
Semantic MediaWiki is the basis of two page-creation forms on this wiki. It was gradually incorporated from about 2011, but the users who did much of the work are no longer active here. (Familypedia has the same problem but has largely overcome it since other admins have taught themselves how to use and improve it.) There seems to be little documentation of what forms, etc, are used and how the system might be extended. This page (perhaps with the use of subpages) is intended to remedy that, so that this wiki can benefit from greater use of SMW.
Who should be involved[]
Users who are familiar with the wiki's content and are willing to spend some hours (or weeks?!) learning how SMW works (i.e. reading the help pages on the Official website) and how it is used here, before discussing how it might be extended.
