Creator

From Brickipedia, the LEGO Wiki.

This article is about the LEGO theme, for the video game, see Creator (computer game).

Creator is a current line of LEGO sets that sets the emphasis on the pure construction aspect of LEGO System bricks and does not focus on special playability functions or minifigures. Thus, it's in the tradition of the older Basic and FreeStyle series and its complement of sets comprised the traditional buckets as well as a wide array of specific brick-built models, ranging from animals to buildings and vehicles. Since some of these models are fairly accurate reproductions of real life objects, the theme is also in the tradition of Model Team.

Creator was already introduced in 2001 and used the same logo as the computer game of the same name introduced in 1999. It was the successor of Basic which was temporarily brought back after the discontinuation of FreeStyle in 1997, but the first Creator sets involved only crude simple models as well as the buckets and sets of color-sorted bricks. More complex sets that focussed solely on the building aspects of LEGO bricks were sold under the Designer theme from 2003 until 2006 when this segment of sets was merged into Creator, which also got a new logo in that year. From 2008 onwards, sets that consist of raw bricks or simplistic models were outsourced to the theme Bricks and More.

Sets of this theme come in various different degrees of complexity and scales. While some sets only consist of classic 2x2 bricks that are arranged from bottom to top, there are also models that make use of rarer and more recent elements and utilize advanced building techniques. Creator sets usually don't contain minifigures although some sets are designed in minifigure-compatible scale and could just as well be used in a Town and City setting. There are also models that would be too big for those figures as well as sets that are built in microscale.

The theme is still produced today, as one of the 3 Make & Create themes (the others being Power Functions and Mosaic) it was introduced in 2005 and is the oldest, as every 2 years a new theme came out (2007 and 2009) of the 3.
