Designer's Description
Edit
This minifigure is a WIP, or Work In Progress. It has not yet been completed in real life, but a digital version made in LEGO Digital Designer and Paint has been completed, with one inaccuaracy-the hair will not be Bright Red as originally planned. When my Poison Ivy minifigure arrived with 6860 The Batcave, I decided that it was too bright. Dark Orange will be used instead. Batgirl is currenly in moderate design stages-the beta decals have been created and printed (and will be applied shortly) and final decisions have been made, but it is yet to be completed.
The Batsymbol was originally created by Lego lord, but recolored by myself.
January 26, 2012: the side of the face without the white eyes (or a visor underneath) has been redone, but I have not yet decided on what eyes to use. Please see the talk page to help me decide.
February 2, 2012: Face has been decided on, but will be modified. Prototype hairpiece finished on January 31st didn't work right. A custom molded hairpiece will be used instead.
February 28, 2012: Second Catwoman set (for the cowl and visor) was ordered two days ago. Should arrive by the end of the week. The torso has been redesigned and Batgirl's hair recolored to Dark Orange (will likely be Orange on the finished cowl). I also decided some time ago to have two heads, one for happy/angry with normal eyes and another for white eyes. Torso redesign now made public (but finished last week). It is now has more influence from Wonder Woman's torso, unlike Catwoman's like the previous'. Purple has been used instead of yellow to give shape, I've gotten over my fear of her torso looking too much like Catwoman's.
March 2, 2012: Second Catwoman set arrived today. Beta version will be finished sometime in the coming weeks.
March 13, 2012: Beta version finished some time ago.
June 1-2, 2012: New cowl/beret/mask/helmet/etc. designed both digitally and physically. Hoping the curing process will work this time.
Background
Edit
Being the adopted daughter of Commissioner Gordon, Barbara Gordon grew up in a household filled with police officers and their stories. When she was older, Barbara decided that she wanted to join the Gotham City Police Department and follow in her father's footsteps, but he wouldn't allow it. One night, at a Masquerade Ball, Barbara wore a homemade "female Batman" costume as a jive against her father and ended up stopping a planned kidnapping on billionaire Bruce Wayne by Killer Moth. Realizing that this was how she could fight crime, Barbara decided to keep the Batgirl moniker.
Though Batman didn't approve of her at first, he eventually came to accept her due to urges from Alfred and revealed his identity as Bruce Wayne to her. She worked with the Dynamic Duo, until Robin left when she became Batman's primary partner, until a new Robin was recruited.
Batgirl is romantically interested in Nightwing and is friends with Supergirl, despite Batman-family members not normally getting along with their Superman-family counerparts. Batgirl has rivalries with Batman's female enemies, particularly Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. She has also mentored Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain.
Batgirl is a founding member and has led the Birds of Prey, a team of female super heroes. Her main agents being Huntress and Black Canary, though Catwoman, Wonder Woman, Katana, and even Poison Ivy have been members.
Though her love interest is normally Dick Grayson (Nightwing), Barbara has had a crush on Azrael, been on a blind-date with Clark Kent and discovered his secret identity as Superman, and in some depictions, even shown attraction to Bruce Wayne.
Like, Nightwing, Supergirl, Huntress, Black Canary, Shazam, Zatanna, Hawkman, Hawkwoman, and The Question, Batgirl occasionally works with the Justice League, which mainly includes Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Martian Manhunter.
