5976 River Expedition is an Adventurers Jungle set released in 1999.

Description[]

It contained 313 pieces, and 7 Minifigures. The set features a boat with Johnny Thunder, Dr. Kilroy, and Gabarro, fully equipped with gear including binoculars, sextants, and cameras. The set also includes a cave shaped like a monster's head, which contains the Sun Disc. A river dock and a falling axe trap are located outside the cave.

Background[]

The heroes and villains seek the Sun Disc hidden by Achu in the booby-trapped cave.

In the set's comic, Señor Palomar and Rudo Villano reach the cave and steal the Sun Disc. Rudo fires his revolver at a snake, and the loud gunshot catches the attention of Johnny Thunder and Dr. Kilroy on the river boat. The heroes corner the villains on a cliff, tie them up, and return the Sun Disc to Achu.

The river is dark and dangerous . . . but you know no fear!

With Johnny Thunder, Dr. Lightning, and Harry Cane[sic] on your crew, you’re ready to travel deep into the jungle in search of the mysterious cave. Beware! This place is booby trapped in more ways than you might guess.

Minifigures included[]

Notes[]

  • The product description in Shop At Home catalogs and the online LEGO Shop misidentifies Gabarro as Harry Cane.
  • The set's box has a flap showing more images of the set, a transparent cover over the set's contents, and a small text blurb in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. The text uses Johnny Thunder's English name in English, French, and Spanish, but translates it to Johnny Trovão in Portuguese.
