Class 4 article
This article is about the Life on Mars alien. For other uses, see Arcturus.

Arcturus, alternatively spelled Arctures,[1] is a Martian minifigure from Life on Mars. He appears exclusively in 7317 Aero Tube Hangar.

Description[]

Arcturus uses the standard Martian build, with bright red torso and legs and medium green arms and head. His head is printed with red eyes and wrinkled skin, as well as small white dots on his forehead.

Background[]

Arcturus is the former leader of the Martians. In the 1930s, he led a Martian invasion of Earth but was forced to retreat when the Martians were repelled by germ warfare; news broadcasts of this invasion were later dismissed as merely a fictional radio drama of The War of the Worlds.[2]

In the present day, Arcturus is a member of the High Council of Mars. However, he is secretly a spy for the rebellious canyon Martians, who are plotting to steal all of the Biodium so Riegel would surrender Mars. His role is discovered by Mac and Cassiopeia when he informs the canyon Martians to get ready to attack.[3]

Notes[]

  • Arcturus is one of only two Martians to have a different skin colour than bright bluish green, the other being Riegel.
  • Arcturus is named after Arcturus, the fourth brightest star in the sky. The spelling of Arcturus matches the star's name in most publications, such as the online Life on Mars storyline[2][3] and the poster that names most Martians, and is therefore the correct spelling. However, in the instruction booklet of 7317 Aero Tube Hangar, his name is "Arctures" instead.
  • A later update to The Test removes much of Arcturus's role from the radio log, including his attempted invasion of Earth.[4]
  • According to Search for the Solar Explorer, Arcturus joined Mizar in the search for the Solar Explorer stolen by the canyon Martians.[5] However, this contradicts Arcturus's previous role in Bye Bye, Biodium which revealed him to be the canyon Martians' spy.[3] Since Time to Say Goodbye and Adventures in LEGO World: Mars Madness both refer to Antares as Mizar's partner instead,[6][7] it is likely that this was merely an error and that Antares is the correct Martian here.
