The brick-built figure^[1]^[2] is a kind of minifigure that is required to be built by bricks, unlike the regular minifigure. The earliest purpose built brick figure sets date back to 1964 when 805 3 Little Indians and 806 Cowboy and Pony were released. The brick-built minifigure, a scaled-up version of a minifigure, is a relatively new sub-type of brick-built figures.

Early History[]

Brick-built figure sets have existed throughout Lego History. Early purpose built sets were released under the Lego System in the United States by Samsonite. Early sets from 1964 on were primarily made from basic elements and made of non-descriptive people and animals and fit into the Basic line of sets.

Brickbuilt-figures branched off into Homemaker Figure (Maxifigure) and the Legoland Figures in 1974 which were also brickbuilt but featured more purpose built elements.

Recognizable characters in Holiday themes such as brick built Santa Clause began appearing in 1977 in sets such as 246 Santa and Sleigh.

Over the years these sets have become increasingly sophisticated with purpose built elements and printed pieces being made and licensed themes and characters added.

A brick-built minifigure is a sub-type of the brick-built figure debuting in 2016. These figures are designed to appear and function as a larger version of a minifigure and each use a printed version of Part 24593 as a face. The current brick-built minifigures are Giant-Man, Ares, Giant Stone Warrior, Grawp, and the nonphysical Sentry-459.
