The Curse of the Mummy - An Interactive Puzzle Book is an Egypt puzzle Book released in 1998. It was written by Anna Knight and illustrated by Roger Harris.

Synopsis[]

Ace photographer Johnny Thunder and reporter Pippin Read work at the World Magazine office, where they plan an expedition to the Great Pyramid of Pharaoh Hotep in Egypt. They receive a coded fax from Doctor Kilroy, who found a parchment written by the late Sir Charles Farr, claiming that Hotep's Re-Gou Ruby is still in his tomb. To navigate Hotep's tomb, Farr has left several riddles.

Johnny, Pippin, and Kilroy go to Cane Airways to fly to Egypt. They are joined by Johnny's friend Harry Cane, who points out that Mr. Hates and Slyboots are boarding an Air Egypt plane and are also seeking the Re-Gou.

Upon arriving at Hotep's pyramid, the adventurers begin solving Farr's riddles in order to find the correct entrance into Hotep's tomb. The next room is a maze full of dead ends, giant scorpions, and giant spiders. In the next chamber, they find hieroglyphs and statues, along with Farr's graffiti instructing them to continue to the Chamber of Khnum. They hear Mr. Hates and Slyboots and hurry into the Chamber of Khnum, where the statue of Khnum contains another clue written by Farr in hieroglyphics. In the Chamber of Thoth, Farr instructs them to search for an ankh to find a secret door. The secret chamber features a chasm that can only be safely navigated by crossing the stepping stones marked with the eye of Horus, leading to a jar with a map drawn by Farr.

Following the map, the adventurers find Hotep's tomb, and underneath the tile marked with fishes is the Re-Gou. Unfortunately, Mr. Hates and Slyboots steal the ruby and leave the adventurers trapped in the chamber. They find a secret escape door to the main passage and catch Mr. Hates and Slyboots, who have lost interest in the ruby after it stopped glowing. They let the villains go and then recharge the Re-Gou with the statue of Anubis in a divine chamber.

Although the adventurers intend to return the Re-Gou to Hotep's tomb, the pyramid begins to collapse, with a boulder rolling after Mr. Hates and Slyboots, and so they are forced to escape. In exchange for helping the villains get out safely, Mr. Hates and Slyboots promise to return their stolen loot and never steal again. Two days later, the Re-Gou is in the museum and the adventurers relax aboard a Nile cruiser.
