The Black Knight[1][2] was a Castle minifigure introduced in 1984 as the leader of the Black Falcons.

Description[]

In Black Falcons, the Black Knight wore silver armor printed on a bright red torso, with red hips, black legs, black arms, and a black helmet with a bright blue feather plume. Like all other minifigures from the time, he had the basic smiling face.

In Black Knights, the Black Knight's silver armor printing remained consistent, but was now printed on a black torso. Additionally, he had a dark grey breastplate and a grey helmet with a black visor, which was adorned with bright red or bright yellow dragon and wing decorations. His face, rather than remaining clean-shaven, was now printed with a red mustache and beard. Otherwise, his minifigure retained the same colors as before.

In LEGO Racers, the Black Knight's design was updated to use more recent minifigure parts, such as the armor of a Fright Knight (also shared with Professor Millennium) and the face of Sir Lance, which gave him black facial hair and eyebrows instead of his previous red color. While his face cannot be seen in-game, it is confirmed by the texture's internal file name, BK_DFLT.[3]

Background[]

The Black Knight often clashed with Sir Richard, the leader of the Crusaders, either attempting to steal his treasure or capture Sir Richard himself to take control of the land.

The Black Knight later built a new fortress, 6085 Black Monarch's Castle, founded the Black Knights, and gained a new enemy, Robin Hood. However, despite the Black Knights being started by the Black Falcon's former leader, the two factions were consistently depicted as enemies in sets such as 6059 Knight's Stronghold and 6057 Sea Serpent.

The Black Knight appeared once more in the 1999 video game LEGO Racers, appearing as an opposing racer in the final circuit of the game. His minifigure parts are unlocked by default in the character builder.

Notes[]

  • In LEGO Racers, the Black Knight's name is directly translated into various languages: Den Sorte Ridder (Danish and Norwegian), El Caballero Negro (Spanish), Il Cavaliere Nero (Italian), and De Zwarte Ridder (Dutch). In other language versions of the game, his English name is used.
