Evil Emperor Zurg is a character from the Toy Story theme.

Background[]

Zurg is Buzz Lightyear's arch-enemy. In a LEGO Club Magazine Toy Story comic, he kidnaps three aliens.

Toy Story[]

Zurg is the main antagonist of the in-universe Buzz Lightyear franchise, and an enemy of the Galactic Alliance. The action figure version of Buzz, believing himself to be the character upon which he is based, further believes that Zurg is a real villain. In this fantasy, he believes Zurg to be in the process of building a weapon capable of destroying a planet, with Buzz being the sole possessor of information on this weapon's fatal flaw.

A Zurg figure, also unaware of his true nature as a toy, later confronts a second Buzz Lightyear figure who is under this same delusion. During their confrontation, Buzz asserts that Zurg "killed [his] father", only for Zurg to claim that he is Buzz's actual father. However, Zurg is then knocked off balance by Rex and falls to his apparent demise at the bottom of an elevator shaft. Inexplicably surviving, he reconciles with his "son", and the two are left behind as the original Buzz sets off with his friends.

Lightyear[]

This version of Zurg is in fact an older version of Buzz Lightyear himself from an alternate future timeline. Unable to reconcile himself to the hyperspace test accident that stranded him and several comrades on an alien planet, this Buzz eventually discovered a fuel that would allow him to travel back in time. However, when his commanding officer, who had forbidden further experimentation, attempted to arrest him, the alternate Buzz fled through both time and space. He eventually stumbled across an abandoned vessel with facilities for constructing Zyclops robots as well as a large purple suit of mech armor.

Using these resources, Buzz-dubbed Zurg by his robotic minions due to their limited pronunciation abilities-traveled back in time with the last of his fuel. Returning to the planet where he and his friends had been stranded, he sought to obtain a new supply of the fuel and thus prevent the accident that had led to both his own timeline and that of the younger Buzz he encountered. However, the younger Buzz decided against aiding his alternate self, realizing that altering history would affect many lives. In the ensuing conflict, Zurg was defeated by his younger self and the fuel he sought destroyed, but Zurg apparently survived to pose a further threat.
