New Pages

I thought we could add a section on the mainpage with (as an example) a list of the ten most recent created mainspace articles on Brickipedia. I first thought that would be possible via the activityfeed, but this also shown the most recent mainpace edits. UltrasonicNXT found something that might help, an extension called "Newest Pages Blog". I don't know if and how it would work and I don't know if we should implement this on the main page as a new feature. But the mainpage could use something new.  Samdo994 talk contribs  11:25, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

  • Definitely the main page needs something new.:P I'm voting for anything that'll make changes to it.Skdhjf(Talk!) 14:27, May 14, 2011 (UTC)
  • We will probably need to contact Wikia to enable it here. - nxt 17:01, May 14, 2011 (UTC)
  • I found this. It may be more suitable. - nxt 17:06, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

  • Can't you just use Special:NewPages if you want to see what the newest pages are? NightblazeSaber 00:53, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
Of course, but that requires "effort" xD -Nerfblasterpro: Always supplying the boomsauce...Maverick 02:51, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
Ahah, but how do you embed that? {{:Special:NewPages}} comes up with [removed] which really needs to be formatted alot nicer. - nxt 11:34, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
I thought of having the list of new pages on the main page, similar to that what Brickset.com has, so Special:NewPages isn't suitable for this.  Samdo994 talk contribs  12:49, May 15, 2011 (UTC)

Well, the best I can come up with is {{Special:NewPages/limit=10,namespace=main}} (shown below) and that doesn't get rid of the edit summary. Although, I was thinking, if we do have this, that means that there's a very easy way to vandalise the main page- just create up to 10 pages with certain undesirable titles. This whole issue could be solved with a little JavaScript using the MediaWiki APIs. FB100Ztalkcontribs 02:18, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

Eureka! http://lego.wikia.com/api.php?action=query&list=recentchanges&rclimit=10&rcnamespace=0&rcprop=title%7Ctimestamp&rctype=new FB100Ztalkcontribs 02:26, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

  • Maybe something like this:
<widget style="width:305px">NewPages</widget>

Makes:

Unless you guys want a different style.:P Skdhjf(Talk!) 05:03, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

That would look great on the mainpage Tat! Well done. :) -Nerfblasterpro: Always supplying the boomsauce...Maverick 20:53, May 16, 2011 (UTC)
  • This doesn't show up on Monobook due ot being a widget. Not opposing it being done that way, just letting you know there will be users who won't see it. NightblazeSaber 23:37, May 16, 2011 (UTC)
  • NBP: Thanks. I do my best.;) NHL: Well, I bet only 5-8% of the people here use Monobook.:P No disrespects. But this widget is the best it gets.:T Skdhjf(Talk!) 02:12, May 17, 2011 (UTC)
