LEGOLAND Billund in Denmark, opened in 1968, and is the first LEGOLAND theme park to be opened. It is the largest LEGOLAND park in the world and features a hotel on the site. It is located next to the original LEGO factory and Billund Airport.

History

The original section of the park was Miniland opened in 1968. The western themed area of the park, LEGOREDO Town, was opened next, in 1973. A Fabuland area opened in 1980 and was later rebranded with a DUPLO theme. Pirate Land was opened next in 1990 and contains water rides. Knights' Kingdom was opened in 1997. Adventure Land opened in 2000, Imagination Zone and DUPLO Land in 2001 and LEGO City in 2003. Vikings River Splash, a Viking themed ride in Knights' Kingdom, opened in 2006. In 2007, Atlantis, operated by fellow Merlin Entertainment's company SEA LIFE opened. In 2008, Pirate Lagoon (which contains Pirate Splash Battle), a water playground was opened.
Areas of the park

The park is split into eight areas. Miniland is at the heart of the park and uses 20 million bricks, also containing a Star Wars themed area . LEGOREDO Town is wild west theme. Imagination Zone contains a Sea-Life attraction and LEGO Studios, Scandanavia's largest 4D cinema. Other areas of the park include Adventure Land, Knights' Kingdom, DUPLO Land, Pirate Land and the new for 2012 Polar Land.

- In 2011, this park was one of the stops for The Amazing Race, a popular reality show. Teams had to assemble a LEGO map of their next destination while riding the Pirate Carrousel before continuing.
