Multiple LEGOLAND minifigures

The LEGOLAND minifigure was the first type of minifigure used in the LEGOLAND-themed sets from the year 1974. It was released in the same year with the Homemaker Figure and marked the return of figures to Lego since the HO figures released in 1956. With the advent of the new LEGO minifigures in 1978, these were almost never used again with the exception of a statue in 1592 Castle Town Square. The parts were used for various objects until 1985 when production was ceased with the arrival of the newer minifigures.

This type of minifigure was different from the modern type in several different ways. The arms were positioned down the sides of the torso and did not move, making the torso one single piece, which led to the colloquial names "hands in pockets" or "stiffs" (or sometimes the "pre-minifigure"). The legs, likewise, did not move, and were also a single piece. The head is the same piece that is used today, except it was not printed with any eyes or mouth, and the top stud was solid instead of being mostly open. The figures had no hands, so they couldn't hold anything. The "male" figures always had either a pilot's cap or cowboy hat on their head, while the "female" figures always had hair. These features would return for the Microfigures introduced in 2009.

History[]

622-man-lr

In the LEGOLAND theme, people were first represented using standard LEGO bricks, as the man driving the baggage carts in 622 Baggage Carts, released in 1970, five years before the first LEGOLAND minifigures, and eight years before the modern minifigure had appeared first.

Notes[]

  • Every part of this minifigure can be reversed and still look exactly the same.
