In 1986, LEGO introduced new theme called Model Team. This theme included the vehicle model with a larger scale and with more details, such as turning function. Theme focused on visual realism of models. The logo of Model Team had changed three times in 1990, 1992 and 1999. The set number starts with a 55XX prefix for regular set. One promotional set 2556 was released in 1997 featuring Shell and Ferrari. Model Team was discontinued after 1999. In 2004, one of the Model Team set 5541 was re-released as 10151 as Legends series. It is interested that the most vehicles in Model Team carry a license started by "MC" or "MT" and then with its set number. Except for set released in 1986 carries with a license plate started by "MC", the vehicle set released after 1986 carries with a license started by "MT" which means "Model Team".
It is believed that exclusive sculpture sets introduced since 2000 and the vehicle models in Creator theme (previously known as Designer Set) introduced since 2003 had replaced Model Team.
