Welcome to my review of 30161 Batmobile! Like many other UK FOLs I picked this up free with The Sun newspaper on May 20, 2012. This, along with the currently unreleased 30162 Quinjet, is one of the only two mini-scale Super Heroes sets. What do I make of it? Read on to find out.
The bag and instructions[]
Both the polybag and the instructions bear a striking similarity to the style of 30160 Bat Jetski's ones. They share the same banner and white back bearing Max advertising the LEGO Club. The only notable difference is the background: they gave the Batmobile a Bat-logo to park on. Sadly, there is nothing comedic in the instructions for me to exploit this time, as it only contains building instructions for the model and nothing more. :P
Building the set[]
The build is that of the Tiny Turbos Racers sets, with no particularly interesting functions or building techniques going on.
Playability[]
Unfortunately, the play value for this set is quite low unless you have some Tiny Turbos to race against it and enjoy flinging it across the room in a Hot Wheels car launcher or something to prove its worth. I'm a bit too old for that, but I'm sure it's something the kids could do.
It's also useless for action-packed play, even some smaller Racers sets had saws and the like, but with the Batmobile, nothing. It's not all bad though, it has some pretty nice parts, including the relatively rare Slope, Curved 4 x 2 No Studs and two of the updated flame part which don't have the clips around the shaft. So yay!
Conclusion[]
In conclusion, this is great value for free but isn't fun. No minifigures and the smaller scale take a lot away from this set for me, leading me to give it a 5/10.
Thanks for reading!
