Background

The Space Police III theme is a line of LEGO released in 2009. The main theme of the series is alien criminals on the loose and the cops trying to arrest all of them. Each set (except 5979, 5980, 8399, & 8400) features an animation on lego.com demonstrating the set's features, similar to the videos for Power Miners, with the exception that these are fully animated. Criminal aliens include the Black Hole Gang (Kranxx, Snake, Skull Twins and Slizer) and Squidman and Frenzy, who are assumed to be a part of the gang (Neither sport the Black Hole Gang skull logo on their belt). So far, there have been 4 police logs showcasing different crimes being committed, including Snake being busted out of jail by Squidman, a Skull Twin rescuing his brother and attacking a Space Police Officer, Kranxx blowing up Jo-Cos's Diner, Slizer in disguise during the Headquarters secret weapon briefing, and Frenzy selling ice-cream, but has stolen gold in the shop.

Beginning in 2010 there will be two new sets (5981 and 5982) which will feature new alien minfigures (Variations of Kranxx and Squidman) and new ships.

Beginning in May 2009, there was a short stop-motion Teaser Trailer up on Lego.com. Later, it was discovered that there is a series of short stop-motion videos, each showcasing the different criminals, coming to us starting with Interrogation to promote the upcoming line.
