After LEGO got the Disney franchise from MEGA BLOKS in 2010, MEGA BLOKS announced they had a new license with Nickelodeon, the owners of SpongeBob SquarePants. However, in 2011, it was revealed that the license was only with Nick Jr. and did not affect LEGO's current license. Unfortunately, at the 2014 New York Toy Fair, MEGA BLOKS announced that they had picked up the SpongeBob licence from LEGO and made a series of sets released that fall, and will continue through 2015 with sets based after the CGI/Live Action/Hand drawn animated film and sets based on other moments from the show.
