The Golden King is a 2011 Atlantis Minifigure.

Description[]

The Golden King is mostly warm gold. He has a Hoplite, Helmet - Mini "No.2" that is a golden variation of the Spartan Warrior's helmet. He also has the same body armour as the Portal Emperor, which is black with speckled gold. The legs and torso feature red detailing based on a Greek warrior, and his bearded face is printed with dual sides, one with a regular minifigure's yellow skin and the other with the Golden King's gold skin.

Background[]

The Golden King is a magical statue that is over three millennia old. He once protected the City of Atlantis, wielding the King's Warrior Shield and defending the city from the evil Dark Guardians. However, the Dark Guardians stole the five glowing gems from his trident, taking away the Golden King's power and locking him in Atlantis's dungeon.

After the Deep Sea Salvage Crew is captured by the Dark Guardians, they are locked up with the Golden King in the dungeon. The Golden King explains his predicament, and Captain Ace Speedman is able to remotely send the Artimus Mini-Sub to the surface with Professor Sam Rhodes' Journal. This leads into the Quest for the Golden King online game, where players explore Atlantis and recover the five gems. Upon completion, the Golden King's power is restored, allowing him and the Atlantis crew to break free and defeat the Dark Guardians. The Golden King carves a monument in honor of the player's bravery.

In Earth's Greatest Threat!, despite the Atlantis team's efforts, the Golden King is abducted by the Alien Mothership and mind-controlled by an Alien Clinger. It is revealed from an Alien Android's memories that the Planet X2½ aliens have attempted to invade Earth previously, having apparently collaborated with Manta Warriors against the Golden King. In the present day, the brainwashed Golden King teams up with the Alien Commander and Amset-Ra to attack the city with their combined technology, which is thwarted by the Alien Defense Unit. This leads directly into the Alien Commander's contingency plan, setting up the Dino theme.

LEGO.com Description[]

LEGO.com-icon-yellow This is a description taken from Quest for the Golden King. Please do not modify it.

The Golden King of Atlantis! Over three thousand years old, he’s a magical statue who protected Atlantis until Dark Guardians stole his power and locked him in his own dungeon. I ask him if he ever tried to escape and he says he hasn’t enough power to escape without his five stolen glowing gems. When the gems are combined and attached to the bottom of his trident, it would give him power to escape and defeat the Dark Guardians! Three of the gems (orange, green and white) are scattered around the city, while the other two (red and blue) are locked in secret chambers.

Notes[]

  • In 2010, 3851 Atlantis Treasure featured a microfigure very similar to the unarmored Golden King. Since the board game predates the actual Golden King minifigure and is unrelated to the Atlantis theme, it is unknown whether this microfigure and the Golden King represent the same character.
