The Watcher in the Water is a large brick-built creature that appears in LEGO The Lord of the Rings: The Video Game.

Background[]

The Watcher in the Water was an enormous, octopus-like creature, with huge sharp teeth, that lived in the lake outside the gate of Moria. When the Fellowship approached the gate, Gandalf began to chant spells and attempted to open it. While the rest of the Fellowship waited for him, Merry and Pippin started throwing rocks into the lake to pass the time. This woke the Watcher. Aragorn noticed and prevented them from throwing anymore, telling them not to "disturb the water". Once Gandalf succeeded in opening the gate, the members of the fellowship were making their way through, when the Watcher in the water reached out with its tentacles and dragged Frodo back. Aragorn and Boromir rushed to rescue him and saved him by chopping some of the Watcher's tentacles off. As the fellowship ran to safety through the gate, Legolas shot an arrow at the Watcher and hit it directly in the eye, as it was about to seize Aragorn. Enraged at this, the Watcher reached out its tentacles, just as the whole fellowship made it through and destroyed the gate by collapsing it, trapping them inside. In LEGO The Lord of the Rings: The Video Game, instead of shooting an arrow at it, Legolas grabs Gimli's axe and shoots it at the watcher using his bow. It hits the Watcher in the eye and the watcher shoots it back to the fellowship.
