Lego, made for a reason?

For many, many, many years, Lego has been a popular company, making tons of themes for kids and sometimes teenagers, to build. But was Lego meant for a reason, or was it just meant for kids to have fun? Maybe it's all a marketing scheme, and their just going to sell the whole Lego business to another company, and no-one would know! I suppose I just need faith in Lego, and to stop worrying.
